This is a great counter top unit. It replaces a Brita pitcher in the fridge and a kettle on the stove. The hot water takes 2-3 minutes to boil (which is near instant, in order for it to be totally instant it would need to keep the water hot or have a gas burner like a tankless water heater). The water is plenty hot for instant cereals or tea or anything you need hot water for. It is no joke hot!
The cold water is cold but not freezing cold, however we don't like cold water in the winter, so we turn off the unit which means the cold side is also room temperature.
One nice thing is even with the power switch off in the back, the insta-hot still works so you can save even more energy!
I am using this with a Zerowater filter system, and it's a match made in heaven. Only minor complaint is it dispenses slow.
