Winter chills have a brutally drying effect on skin. Cold weather makes the air drier, which quickly parches your skin as it loses moisture. Wind worsens the drying factor, leaving skin feeling brittle or flaky. Sensitive spots, like your mouth, are especially prone to chapping and rawness. Not only is dry skin uncomfortable, it can be painful, itchy, and unsightly. Using topical remedies like lotions, lip balm, and exfoliating helps with skin management. If your skin is still suffering from icy air, try changing the atmosphere with a humidifier.
Humidifiers are an effective solution to rehydrate your skin. Humidifiers add moisture in the ambient air to fight the drying effect. Using water from a tank, humidifiers circulate air and mist throughout the room. Running a humidifier at night while you sleep helps quench your skin. Additionally, the added humidity in the atmosphere cuts down on heating costs.

The Vornado Ultrasonic humidifier has a built in humidistat so you can specify the room’s humidity level. It’s designed to cover rooms up to 1250 square feet. This humidifier model has the option of warm or cool mist, making it seasonally versatile in areas that are dry year-round.
Many humidifiers are designed with bedrooms in mind, so they operate quietly. Sunpentown put out this petite humidifier with a spectrum of color options, perfect for personalizing décor. The Sunpentown SU-1051P humidifier is ultra compact and portable.

Crane has a humidifier line for children, shaped like cute animals and cartoons. The Crane EE-3191 ultrasonic humidifier is eco-friendly and is perfect for a child’s nightstand. Humidifiers can help relieve cold or flu symptoms. These humidifiers are friendlier than a boxy industrial humidifier.

Does your skin get dry during the winter?
Have you used a humidifier to try to help?
I use a dehumidifier because I used to have really really chapped lips (no matter how much water I drank) and it worked like a charm! Just ran it at night!
We live on the west coast and I do notice that my skin is often dry..no matter how much lotion I apply I always have cracked skin! I’d never considered a humidifier before – thank you for the great idea!
