Crazy Winter

How much longer is winter going to stay? I haven't even checked up on whether or not Punxatawney Phil saw his shadow - though I heard he's only accurate 40% of the time anyway! Yesterday, it was raining and freezing - today, it's sunny and warm. You know that the weather is going crazy when you have to use a space heater one day, and then an electric fan the next. Good thing we had the Air King 9550 commercial fan blower today! Otherwise, I'm sure I would have been sweating through my clothes. This utility fan was super quiet and didn't distract me from any work that I had to do at all!

Don't forget - Air Conditioner Home has an excellent library full of articles that can provide you with tips about choosing the right humidifier, dehumidier, portable air conditioner, and even air purifiers! We even have tips on saving money and being green - topics everyone should be interested in (especially with the weather changes going on they way they do).

Today, I was looking through some products and discovered a really cool water dispenser/ice maker combo: the NewAir AI-400SB.

This creative unit is a water dispenser first - it comes with hot water, cold water, and room temperature water. The hot water dispenser even has a child safety guard to prevent accidental scalding of any kind! The AI-400SB is also an ice maker. It is actually capable of providing up to 28 pounds of ice per day. And, even better, this unit is able to produce ice in only seven minutes, making it much more functional and capable than other compact icemakers - which don't have an additional water dispenser attached, by the way.

Too bad I didn't know about this cool water dispenser/ice maker until today! Can you imagine how perfect it would have been for a Superbowl party? Guests could make their own drinks at the temperature they want - and ice would be available too!

Freezers Are Great for College Students!

Ever since starting college, I've been pretty dependent on frozen foods. I live in an apartment near the school, so everything I own has to be pretty small, including my refrigerator. And a small refrigerator equals one thing: a tiny freezer. As a result, I always ran out of room and could never find anywhere to place my pre-cooked meals. So, I looked around and found this awesome freezer / ice chest: the Vinotemp VT-ICECHEST. This ice chest isn't just for ice - it can pretty much hold anything that needs to be frozen. And it has a 7.2 cubic ft capacity, so I can put as many frozen meals into the freezer as I want!

This unit even has a bin separator - so of course, I made it look kind of like those ice cream bins at the supermarket. I don't think I've ever been so excited to put anything in my apartment. Now I don't have to waste as much money eating out all the time! (You know, college costs a lot even without considering how much a student pays for food)

Featuring: Crane Humidifiers

Recently, while looking at different humidifier styles, I came across the brand Crane. This fabulous brand features so many unique styles of humidifiers - and they all function great, too! Humidifers are great for adding additional moisture to your air during the dry, colder months, especially during winter. Dry air can be very bad for your health and your home - common side effects are chapped lips/skin and, in your house, peeling paint and cracked floors. For more information about humidifiers and how to pick the perfect type, refer to this previous post.

As stated before, Crane's humidifiers offer great designs as well as great features. They can help relieve symptoms from coughing, the cold, and the flu. Crane humidifiers make it easier to breathe for a good night's sleep by adding moisture into dry air. With this extra moisture, it can also help prevent dry skin and dry throats - this feature is perfect for people who constantly need to use their voices for speaking or singing. In fact, when humidity is too low or too high, it can be terrible for your natural voice and you might have sore throats more easily. Crane's humidifiers also offer whisper quiet operation, and many can last up to 11 hours on just one gallon of water! Because these units from Crane consume very little power, they are extremely energy efficient and will save you a lot of money every year!

Crane has recently come out with models that are great for adults and children alike. The most unique ones I've seen are in fact humidifiers shaped like Hello Kitty, Spongebob, and Thomas the Tank Engine. They also feature a penguin-shaped humidifier, a duck-shaped humidifier, a pig-shaped humidifier, and even a dragon-shaped humidifier! Crane also features many traditional style humidifiers for those who don't need the extra designs.

In addition to humidifiers, Crane also offers a couple of electric fans that are just as powerful and economical!

NewAir AC-12000E Portable Air Conditioner - Back by Popular Demand!

One of our biggest sellers last summer was the NewAir AC-12000E and for good reason: this ultra-sleek, ultra-efficient portable air conditioner is one of the most compact units in its cooling range and looks better than almost any other room AC on the market. Back by popular demand, it's now available this summer!

The NewAir AC-12000E is a portable air conditioner that cools medium-sized rooms such as bedrooms or offices. Unlike other portable air conditioners designed for installation in a wall or window, the AC-12000E sits on casters. This means you can roll it from room to room whenever you need a shot of chilled air.

Easy to install and operate, what we like most about this portable air conditioner is that it also works as a dehumidifier. It can take a considerable amount of moisture out of the air. According to NewAir, this model can remove up to 60 pints of moisture out of the air in a single day.
Although Southern California isn't that humid, we use this model in our own office and we're still pleased with its dehumidifying performance. Plus, auto-evaporative technology saves us the hassle of constant maintenance.

In terms of performance, the AC-12000E is a 12,000 BTU unit and it quickly cools even sizeable rooms. However, the best thing about this portable air conditioner is easily its looks. The NewAir AC-12000E boasts a sleek style we've yet to find in any other portable AC or window-mount models. Its silver body with black accents gives it a modern-chic look.

Get your NewAir AC-12000E portable air conditioner while we have units still in stock!

Beat the Heat with a Lakewood Desk Fan!

Due to the current economy, a lot of customers have been asking us for suggestions on how to stay cool without turning on their air conditioners. Although evaporative swamp coolers can reduce temperatures by using 25 percent less energy than an AC, they're not always practical for areas with high humidity levels.

That's why we always suggest the handy electric fan as a great, energy-efficient way to beat the heat. One of our favorite models is definitely the Lakewood 1016 portable electric desk fan.
Over the years, in our quest to remain cool, one of the absolute best fans we've ever used is the Lakewood 1016. Unlike cheaper fans on the market, this fan isn't made of plastic - it's constructed of metal with aluminum blades. We've found that less expensive plastic fans tend to bite the dust in a few months. They may work for a while, but as time goes by, they usually break down.

With that said, this Lakewood is like a hurricane! There are three settings - low, medium, and high. You can adjust it to whatever level you want. Best of all, the Lakewood 1016 also looks great. The all-metal finish fits in with almost any decor.

If you're looking for a dependable and long-lasting desk fan, we highly recommend the Lakewood 1016 electric fan!

Say Hello to Our Newest Portable AC - the NewAir AC-10000E!

Introducing the newest portable air conditioner to the NewAir lineup: the AC-10000E!

We just received this unit in not too long and this portable AC unit is pretty much perfect. When it comes to spot cooling, everything that could have possibly been thought of was included in this great new air conditioner.

The AC-10000E utilizes NewAir's patented auto-evaporative technology. This high tech system collects water within the unit, and it's then misted out the exhaust hose along with hot air. This means you spend less time emptying the air conditioner's tank and more time enjoying the cool air it provides. Because this portable AC removes moisture from the air, it also works as a dehumidifier, making it great for areas with humidity problems.

Although the NewAir AC-10000E must be vented, it fits conveniently into a corner or tight space and comes with an easy-to-use window mounting kit. For cleaner air, the unit has a washable pre-filter that collects larger particles and prevents bacteria, and dust build-up. An amazing 10,000 BTUs of cooling means this unit can cool a room of 250 square feet easily. Also this portable air conditioner is equipped with a timer that can be set from 1 to 12 hours and varying degrees of temperature (all of which can be programmed with the included remote control).

Buying Guide: Dehumidifiers

The amount of moisture or water vapor in the air is called humidity. Humidity can be added to the air when people or pets breathe and perspire, by indoor plants, and through routine household tasks like cooking, showering, bathing, doing laundry and dishwashing. Too much humidity in your home can cause a host of difficulties. For example, excess moisture in the air can cause condensation on windows, wet stains on walls and ceilings, moldy bathrooms, musty smells and allergic reactions. More long term effects include damage to the house and its contents, ongoing allergies and other health problems. The perfect solution to excess household moisture is to purchase a quality dehumidifier. They are household appliances that help reduce the humidity levels in the air.

For very small spaces, desiccant or passive dehumidifiers can be used. For larger areas, mechanical dehumidifiers are more common and more efficient. Mechanical dehumidifiers are dehumidifiers that use compressors. They are very similar to air conditioners, except that they contain hot and cold coils in the same box. To condense the moisture, a fan draws air over the cold coil and the moisture is collected into a bucket. To heat the air back to its original temperature, the dry air will pass through the hot coil. The temperature on the air is slightly raised by mechanical compressor dehumidifiers.

There are also dehumidifiers with thermo-electric peltiers. These mechanical dehumidifiers pass an electric current through two dissimilar metals that transfer heat and cause the same effect that is used by mechanical compressor dehumidifiers. These units operate extremely quietly because there are no moving parts and the only noise emitted is from the fan that circulates the air. Thermo-electric peltier dehumidifiers are very effective for smaller areas because although they are not as energy efficient as units with compressors, they provide nearly silent operation. Here are the features to look for when purchasing a dehumidifier:

Portability: This is an important feature if you need to dehumidify more than one room. Look for a unit that has a compact body complete with a carrying handles and rolling casters.

Built-in Humidistat: This feature allows you to set your desired humidity on your unit. After you set your desired humidity level, the dehumidifier will cycle on an off until it reaches that moisture percentage.

Automatic Shut-Off: Finding a unit with this feature is important is you want your dehumidifier to turn off by itself when the storage tank is full to prevent overflowing. The NewAir AD-40A Dehumidifier shuts off when the tank is full and will not run until the tank is emptied and replaced.

Automatic Defrost: Sometimes frost may build up on the coils of your dehumidifier. Automatic defrost stops the operation of the unit and runs the fan until the coils have defrosted. This prevents frost from accumulating on the sensor and prevents quick cycling.

Storage Tank Capacity: Note the storage tank capacity whenever you are purchasing a dehumidifier. You should purchase a dehumidifier with a tank that is an appropriate size for the area that needs to be dehumidified.

Continuous Drainage Port: A continuous drainage port is very convenient because your dehumidifier can run continuously and the water is constantly being drained. If you purchase a dehumidifier without one, the tank will need to be emptied regularly.

Indicator Lights: Indicator lights are important because they alert you when something happens that might affect the way your dehumidifier operates. The NewAir ADS-600 Mini Dehumidifier has a red indicator light that indicates when the tank is full. There are also indicator lights on some units that tell you when the filter needs to be cleaned or replaced.

Built-in Air Purification: If you need to remove excess moisture but also impurities from the air, look for a dehumidifier with this feature. The NewAir ADS-500 Mini Dehumidifier eliminates allergens with a built-in ionizer and absorbs odors with the activated carbon filter.

Electric Space Heaters: What Are the Different Types?

Electric space heaters are popular when it comes to heating options for your home because they are cost-effective and easily maintained. Most space heaters use electricity to provide warmth because it is available everywhere. Electric space heaters also do not emit any pollutants, are often required to pass rigid safety tests and do not require you to store any fuel.

A specific type of electric space heater is a convection space heater, like the Dayton NW9 Electric Ceramic Convection Space Heater. Convection heaters are especially useful for providing background warmth in a closed space because they are relatively silent and have a low risk of fire hazard. How they work is that they warm the air near the element or body of the heater by using air convection currents to generate heat. The currents then circulate through the appliance and across the heating element. Cool air is denser than hot air, which means hot air rises and allows cool air to take its place.

There are different types of convection heaters. Oil filled radiator heaters, like the NewAir AH-450 Electric Oil Filled Radiator Space Heater, are perfect for personal spaces like underneath desks and in offices because they have low surface temperatures which makes them safe. Their operation is silent as well because they don't use fans to spread warmth. The heating element heats the oil in the body of the heater and then the heat is transferred to the living space by natural convection via the air. The oil never needs to be replaced and is never burned. The residual heat in the oil and the body continues to heat the air even after the heating element has been deactivated. This characteristic helps oil filled radiators maintain a more consistent temperature over time.

Convection heaters can be fan forced as well, like the Dayton U37 Electric Convection Heater. A fan is used to pass air over a heating element in order to speed up the airflow. The air is heated by the heating element then leaves the heater to warm the surrounding air. The heat will spread rapidly but the fan will make noise. They work well in areas where installing other types of heating devices would be impractical and where sound is not a concern. Fan-forced convection heaters should not be left unattended.

An infrared or radiant heater is another type of electric space heater. Thermal energy is transferred via electromagnetic waves with these heaters. Heat is emitted or radiated from the heated object or substance and only objects are warmed as opposed to entire areas. Infrared heaters, like the NewAir AH-350E Electric Reflective Space Heater, heat you and not the entire room so they save you money. The heat penetrates your skin, warms you from beneath your skin and radiates outward. A portion of the heat reflects off of your skin so even people next to you will be heated. Infrared space heaters use less energy than other space heaters and operate silently so your home environment will not be disturbed. Also, there is no stuffy feeling created because heat is distributed evenly and no air is being pushed around.

The NewAir AW-280E Thermoelectric Wine Cooler Review: The Health Benefits of Wine

The French paradox: sounds like a term referring to the grammar in French language but that is not what it is. It actually is the observation that even though the French consume a diet rich in saturated fats, they have a low incidence of heart disease. It is proposed that red wine decreases the incidence of cardiac diseases. According to studies, people who drink wine moderately have a lower risk of heart disease. Red wine has more benefits than white wine. This may be because red wine contains more polypenols that white wine. Polyphenols are found in grape skins. When red wine is made, the skins are left soaking, which turns the wine red. This does not occur when making white wine.

Resveratrol, a chemical found in red wine, is also thought to have cardioprotective and chemoprotective effects. Researchers found that a low dose of resveratrol has effects that are similar to caloric restriction. Caloric restriction is a diet with 20-30 percent fewer calories than a typical diet.

A study that took place in 2007 found that red and white wine is able to guard against strains of Streptococcus. Streptococcus is the bacterium that causes strep throat. In some parts of the world, wine is used to treat wounds.

You may not get these benefits from the wine you drink if you aren't storing it correctly. You may think that the proper storage of wine entails spending thousands of dollars on a wine cellar. This isn't true if you do not need to store your wine for longer than a year. The NewAir AW-280E Thermoelectric Wine Cooler is an inexpensive way to store your wine. It has a twenty eight bottle capacity so you are ready for any occasion, whether it is an intimate dinner for two or a wine tasting party.

The ideal temperature range to store wine in is around 45-65 degrees Fahrenheit. To help you keep your wine in these optimal conditions, the NewAir AW-280E has digital temperature controls. You can set the wine cooler to a certain temperature and rest assured that the temperature will not fluctuate. This is important because rises in temperature force the wine through the cork and drops cause air to be sucked back in. The greater the changes in temperature, the greater the premature aging of the wine from overbreathing.

For your convenience, there is a touch screen and a LED light on the display. This means you can keep the wine cooler in a darker place and still be able to see what setting the temperature is at. Also, there is an LED light inside so that you can carefully select the perfect wine for your occasion. The sleek black cabinet and chrome racks add a touch of sophistication that will add to the ambiance of any home.

Vibration can also cause the premature aging of your wine. Thankfully, the NewAir AW-280E uses thermoelectric technology which means it runs silently and vibration free.

You're free to enjoy all of the health benefits of your wine when it is stored correctly with the NewAir AW-280E Thermoelectric Wine Cooler.

NewAir AW-180E Thermoelectric Wine Cooler Product Review: Tips on Preserving Wine

Keeping a bottle of wine at the proper temperature is imperative if you want to enjoy the true aroma. If kept too cool a temperature, the flavor will be lost. If kept too warm, the aging process will be sped up.

The NewAir AW-180E Thermoelectric Wine Cooler is an expensive way to keep your wine properly chilled. This wine cooler has an eighteen bottle capacity. This means it is now easy to have a wine tasting in your home. The digital controls on the front panel make it incredibly easy to use. Also adding to the ease of use is the LED light and touch screen. The LED on the display makes the controls stand out again the panel they are on. Your every command is answered immediately once you press the intuitive touch screen.

The NewAir 180E also has an internal LED light that allows you to see exactly what bottle you are pulling out. Because of the thermoelectric technology, there are not very many moving parts. The operation is silent and vibration free. You will not disturb anybody with the operation of this unit. The racks inside of this sophisticated cooler are chrome plated for a high quality finish.

Wine is important to many cultures around the world. It has been around for thousands of years. The Greeks and the Romans even had gods delegated to the celebration of wine culture. Here are some tips on how to make your wine last as long as possible:

Avoid Light

-You should avoid storing all wines where there is light.
-Especially avoid direct sunlight and fluorescent fixtures which make the wine maderize or lose flavor.
-If you cannot keep wine out of the light, wrap it in a cloth or put it in a box with a lid.

Store Wine on its Side

-If a corked wine is stored upright for a long time, the cork will dry out and give air access to the wine, which spoils it.
-Wine should be store label side up because it is easier to see sediments that may have formed over time. It is also easier to see which wine you are selecting.

Wine Temperature

-Wine should be stored at a temperature below 75 degrees Fahrenheit. At 75 degrees, wine begins to oxidize.
-The temperature in a wine storage area should be as steady as possible. Rises in temperature force wine through the cork. Drops in temperature cause air to be sucked into the bottle. The greater the temperature changes, the greater the premature aging of wine from over breathing.

The NewAir ADS-400 Dehumidifier Product Review: Prevent Possible Health Risks

The NewAir ADS-400 is a small dehumidifier that helps you get rid of excess moisture in your home. This helps create a more comfortable environment in your home. It also helps you protect your furniture and electronic devices from water damage. It works best in small areas like bathrooms, closets or under-sink areas. The capacity for dehumidifying is 12 ounces per day at 86 degrees Fahrenheit and 80 percent relative humidity. The NewAir ADS-400 holds up to 32 ounces of water in its removable water tank so you do not have to empty it very often. It also has a yellow indicator LED light that alerts you when the water tank is full. So you do not have to worry about the water tank overflowing, the dehumidifier also has a automatic shut off feature that shuts the unit off when the tank is full.

This dehumidifier does not use chemical substances to absorb the moisture. It uses a thermo-electric Peltier motor as its cooling element. This technology eliminates the need to use a compressor. This means your dehumidifier is much lighter and very quiet. It is also much more environmentally friendly because of the Peltier technology. It uses a very low amount of energy (only 36 watts of power consumption). You can even use this dehumidifier to remove moisture from your car or truck. It comes complete with a car kit and a 12 volt adaptor.

One of the reasons to use a dehumidifier is to prevent mold from invading your home. Mold can cause a variety of health problems for you and your family. You might come in contact with mold by skin contact, ingestion or inhalation. Some health risks resulting from this exposure are allergic reactions, irritation and invasive disease.

When you have an allergic reaction it means the mold has cause an immune response in your body. You might have symptoms such as a runny nose, itchy and watery eyes, coughing, sneezing and throat irritation. You can even develop more chronic conditions such as sinusitis and asthma.

When fungi degrade substances to obtain nutrition, they produce Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). If you are exposed to high levels of these VOCs, your mucous membrane may become irritated. This can lead to headaches, decreased attention span, difficulty in concentration and dizziness.

A less common health risk associated with mold is invasive disease. Invasive disease does not affect healthy individuals. It is an opportunistic infection that affects people with abnormally functioning immune systems. An example of the kind of person this might affect is an individual with HIV/AIDS or someone who is receiving immunosuppressive drugs such as transplant or chemotherapy patients.

To prevent any of these health risks from affecting you or your family, consider using a dehumidifier to remove the excess moisture from your home. It could prevent a lot of discomfort or possibly a serious infection in the future.

The NewAir ADS-300 Mini Dehumidifier Product Review: Preventing Mold in Common Areas

The NewAir ADS-300 Mini Dehumidifier uses a thermo-electric peltier motor to remove excess moisture from small places like under the counter, bathrooms and closets. This technology makes it lighter and quieter. In fact, it only weighs two pounds and operates almost completely silently. You should utilize this dehumidifier in small rooms where poor ventilation results in musty odors or fungus growth. This dehumidifier helps you get rid of odors and prevent fungus growth for good.

The NewAir ADS-300 Mini Dehumidifier comes with a car kit adapter. This means you can rid your car or truck of excess moisture as well. It has an automatic shut off switch. When the water reservoir is full the dehumidifier automatically turns off so that the tank does not overflow. When the reservoir is full a yellow full indicator light will also alert you so you can empty it as needed. The tank holds up to 16 ounces of water.

If you suspect mold in your home, here are some common places to look for it:

Basements/Crawl Spaces

This level of your home has the most chance out of any level in your home of fostering mold growth. The thing to look for here is any sign of dampness. You should also look for black mold growth that may be taking place in wooden building materials. It is very important to look for black mold in the framing because this is the easiest way mold spreads to other parts of your home. You especially do not want mold to spread to the framing because your beams can be weakened as well as bearing walls that are crucial to the stability of the structure.

Rooms/Areas with High Relative Humidity

One way the likelihood of a mold problem will increase is when the relative humidity of a room or area is above 55%. You should be sure to monitor areas with high humidity levels on a regular basis. To measure the relative humidity of a room or area you will need a relative humidity sensor. These can also be called a moisture meter or a hygrometer.

Inside Wall Cavities

Walls are where warm air meets cooler air. This is especially true concerning the walls around the perimeter of homes and buildings. Wall cavities are, unfortunately, good at trapping moisture. Pipes inside your walls can leak without you being aware. Mold inside your walls eventually works its way to the outside of the walls. It will be visible, you will smell a musty odor and/or you will have respiratory health effects. You should remove drywall anywhere you suspect mold and then clean and remove mold.

The NewAir AD-400 Dehumidifer Product Review: Powerful Dehumidification Capabilities

The NewAir AD-400 Dehumidifier is your way to prevent mildew growth. Getting rid of excess moisture can also prevent damage to furniture, carpets and other home furnishings. Mold and mildew can cause health problems like allergic reactions, congestion, breathing difficulties and other respiratory problems.

The NewAir AD-400 is the embodiment of efficiency and portability all combined in one dehumidifier. It weighs twenty-five pounds and removes up to forty pints of moisture per day. This is more than comparable models in its class. Part of what makes this dehumidifier so portable is the large rolling casters at the base of the unit. These casters make it possible for the AD-400 to be moved conveniently from room to room. It also has a carrying handle which makes it even easier to transport.

A great feature on the NewAir AD-400 Dehumidifier is the built-in adjustable thermostat. With this feature, you are able to set the unit to dry the air to the level you choose. Then the unit automatically sets the humidity value to your specifications. This dehumidifier also has an automatic defrost function. This keeps water from freezing or quick cycling of the unit in low temperatures. When the machine operates in rooms where the temperature ranges from 41 degrees F to 53 degrees F it will automatically defrost every thirty minutes. When the temperature ranges between 53.6 degrees F to 68 degrees F, it will defrost every 45 minutes.

The operation of the NewAir AD-400 Dehumidifier is incredibly quiet. There is a twenty four hour timer so that you can set when the unit turns on or off. This helps the dehumidifier be more energy efficient. It is also energy efficient because it consumes a minimal amount of power. It also has a continuous drainage port. All you have to do is attach a plastic pipe with an inner diameter of nine millimeters to the drainage port and you will never have to manually empty the collection tank again.

The powerful dehumidification capabilities of this dehumidifier are made possible by refrigeration technology. The NewAir AD-600 Dehumidifier takes advantage of this technology and uses it to remove excess moisture from the air. This decreases the humidity level of a room or area and makes the air drier and more comfortable.

As well as making your environment more comfortable by removing the excess humidity, the NewAir AD-400 Dehumidifier has a few other tricks up its sleeve. It has a built-in ionizer that charges the air and removes the potentially harmful particles from it. As well as removing particles, the dehumidifier has an activated carbon filter to take care of noxious odors. You have never felt more safe and purified.

The NewAir AD-40A Dehumidifier Review: Consider These Things When Buying a Dehumidifier

There are certain things to consider when you are buying a dehumidifier. Dehumidifiers help prevent the growth of mold in your home. Excess, visible mold in your home looks bad and has an unpleasant odor. It can also cause health problems if you are allergic to mold or have asthma.

The first thing to think about is the size. An improperly sized unit can be useless in preventing mold even if it is running unless the humidity in the room is brought below the proper level. You must get to 50% humidity or less because mold cannot grow at humidity levels below 50%. Going down to 40% is a waste of electricity. 45-50% is a good range to shoot for. The NewAir AD-40A Dehumidifier can help you rid your home of excess humidity. It will remove forty pints of water from the air in twenty four hours in ideal conditions (86 degrees Fahrenheit/80% humidity). This dehumidifier quickly removes moisture from the air. It is a light, compact dehumidifier and has a water tank capacity of 5 liters.

The outside humidity also affects how well your dehumidifier works. Some dehumidifiers will only operate at temperatures above 65 degrees or they will form ice on the coils (ice up) and shut off the machine. Low temperature dehumidifiers are recommended for basements. These dehumidifiers are able to work at a lower operating temperature. Some dehumidifiers have a frost guard or freeze guard. This feature turns the compressor off as soon as freezing is detected and leaves the fan running to blow warm air over the coils. The NewAir AD-40A has an auto defrost function that de-ices the unit. It also has an automatic on/off intelligent control.

Noise is another factor to consider. Low temperature dehumidifiers tend to be noisier than the regular temperature units. The AD-40A operates extremely quietly and has a great looking design that will fit in with the decor of many homes. A good dehumidifier will remove and clean air frequently. It will stop dirt particles and dust from forming on the condenser coils which reduces the efficiency of the machine. A clogged filter stops the airflow to the dehumidifier and the motor will fail prematurely. The NewAir AD-40A has an activated carbon filter for air purification. As well as providing a clean, dry atmosphere, this dehumidifier adsorbs odors in your home.

The most important factor to consider when purchasing a dehumidifier is the position. You should place your dehumidifier in a spot where the dehumidifier can get the most airflow in and out. If you are placing it near a wall, consider putting the dehumidifier sideways to improve the airflow.

If you want your dehumidifier to help you get as comfortable as possible, consider what size you need, the outside humidity, noise, purification and the position it will be placed in. The NewAir AD-40A Dehumidifier may be just what you need.

The NewAir ADS-500 Mini Dehumidifier Product Review: Functions for Freshness

Humidity: on a hot day it can cause you major discomfort. It can stop you from sleeping well at night. An excess of humidity can have long term effects as well. The dust mite population in your home can increase which can be a hindrance to the health of allergy sufferers. If there is condensation on the windows, water pipes and walls can cause paint to blister and wall paper to peel. Moisture also makes metals rust and wood warp which can cause doors and drawers to stick. If there is condensation in electric items, irreparable damage may be the result. This can also be very dangerous. Musty odors and eventually mold, mildew and fungus can appear as well which are also dangerous to your health. A dehumidifier not only helps you ward against these effects of excess moisture, it can keep you comfortable as well. The recommended indoor humidity level is 40-50% and a dehumidifier can help you keep your humidity in that range.

The NewAir ADS-500 Mini Dehumidifier is an appliance that can help you control excess humidity. There are certain features you should look for in a dehumidifier. One is that it automatically shuts off when the water storage tray is full. The NewAir ADS-500 Mini Dehumidifier has this feature so that when the spill-proof tank is full it will shut off by itself. Another thing to look for on a dehumidifier is a visual indicator that the water tray is full. The ADS-500 has a red indicator light to alert you when the tray is full.

An on/off switch is important so that you don’t need access to the main socket (which can be inconvenient). The NewAir ADS-500 Has a large on/off switch for easy control. There are indicator lights to tell you whether the unit is on or off as well.

An air filter can be useful to allergy sufferers. The ADS-500 has a built-in ionizer to get rid of particulates in the air. The anionic function discharges negative ions to freshen while eliminating mildews and odors. It also has an activated carbon filter to adsorb odors and pollutants. There are also thermo-electric peltiers instead of a compressor. This means that this unit is whisper quiet and can be used in bedrooms, nurseries, small offices and other small areas. In fact, on the low setting, the noise level of the NewAir ADS-500 is only 41 decibels.

The NewAir ADS-600 Electric Mini-Dehumidifier Product Review: Preventing Mold and Mildew

Dehumidifiers are household appliances that reduce the level of humidity in the air. This can be helpful for those concerned about mold and mildew growing inside their homes. Mold can be allergenic which can mean irritation of the eyes, nose, throat and lungs. Besides the prevention of the growth of mold which has unpleasant health risks for human beings, humidity can cause unsightly condensation and can make it hard to dry laundry.

The NewAir ADS-600 Electric Mini Dehumidifier is an excellent dehumidifier that can help you prevent the growth of mold and mildew. Increased water vapor in the air can warp furniture and increase wood rot. This dehumidifier uses three thermo-electric peltiers to cool the air and condensate the water instead of using a compressor. This makes the dehumidifier highly efficient and silent.

How the thermo-electric peltier works is the ambient water in the air condenses onto the heat sink that is attached on the cold side of the peltier chip. The water then drips off into the reservoir to be emptied at a later time. The NewAir ADS-600 Electric Mini Dehumidifier removes up to 32 oz. of water a day in ideal conditions.

The NewAir ADS-600 also has a built in ionizer to reduce particulates. The ionizer electrically charges the molecules of the air. It generates negative ions which particulate matter sticks to. It also has an activated carbon filter which absorbs noxious odors and gases. This helps if you are sensitive to odors and smoke. This dehumidifier is ideal for small areas like closets and small rooms.

The water tank on the NewAir ADS-600 is translucent and detachable. It can hold up to 4.8 pints of water. The automatic shut off switch prevents the tank from overflowing. When the tank is full, you are alerted by a red indicator light.

Other ways to prevent mold are:

-Use an air conditioner with a HEPA filter. The filter can trap mold spores from the outside air before they circulate inside your home.

-Change the furnace and air conditioning filters regularly.

-Properly ventilate all of your bathrooms and run the ventilation fan for half an hour following a shower or bath to remove humidity.

-Remove leaves and vegetation from around the foundation of your house to promote ground water drainage that flows away from your home. Also, clean the rain gutters frequently.

-Keep straw, wicker, and hemp organic plant containers clean and dry.

NewAir AF-321 Swamp Cooler Product Review: Five Reasons to Purchase

1. Cost Effective: Swamp coolers in general are extremely cost effective. The estimated cost is 1/4 that of refrigerated air. The power consumption is limited to the fan and water pump as opposed to a compressor, pump and blower of an air conditioner. The NewAir AF-321 Swamp Cooler runs on only 85 watts of power. That is the same amount of power as a light bulb. It also does not use a water pump, but just a small motor to rotate the cooling pad. This means it uses less power than swamp coolers with water pumps and is quieter as well.

2. Cheap to Install: Swamp coolers only cost 1/8 to 1/2 the price it costs to install a traditional air conditioner. The NewAir AF-321 Swamp Cooler does not need to be installed at all. It is completely portable. It has large rolling casters so that it can be easily moved from room to room. To operate it, all you need to do is fill it with water and/or ice and turn it on. Opening windows while the unit is operating will also be beneficial.

3. Improve Air Quality: To work well, swamp coolers need adequate ventilation. This means that a constant and high volume of air will be going through the building, which greatly reduces the age of air. The NewAir AF-321 has a three speed fan and oscillating louvers so that the cool air is evenly distributed. It also has a built-in ionizer for particulates and a carbon filter that absorbs odors.

4. Acts Like a Humidifier: Swamp coolers cool your environment using the power of evaporation, so they add moisture to the air. This may make you feel more comfortable. It also keeps wood furniture and fabrics from warping and drying out. The NewAir AF-321 has specially designed cooling pads that retain more water than other units in its class. These pads also never have to be replaced. A thirteen liter tank means more cooling and humidifying between tank refills. You can also add ice, if you require enhanced cooling, to the four liter ice tank.

5. Versatility: Swamp coolers are able to be used in a lot of environments such as homes, offices, and industrial areas as long as the climate is dry. For a swamp cooler to really be effective the temperature should be hot and the air should be dry. If there is humidity in the air, the swamp cooler will just be adding more, which can make you uncomfortable and not cooler. The NewAir AF-321 cools spaces up to 200 square feet. It also has a modern design that will fit almost any decor. It is also incredibly easy to use because it has electronic controls and also includes a remote control.

The NewAir AF-350 Swamp Cooler: Product Review and Tips

Evaporative coolers or swamp coolers are a great way to keep cool and are less expensive than air conditioners.

A great swamp cooler is the NewAir AF-350 Swamp Cooler. It has a very powerful motor that runs on 200W of cooling power. The cooling pad has an improved design that is capable of retaining a greater amount of water. This means more cooling in a shorter amount of time.

The NewAir AF-350 has an extra large, 20 liter tank so that you will not have to fill it up as often as a swamp cooler with a smaller tank. It only weighs twenty two pounds so that you can easily maneuver it around your home. The rolling casters and a carrying handle also add an extra layer of maneuverability.

There are also electric controls and a remote control included with the NewAir AF-350. There are three selection speeds and a built-in ionizer for particulates. A carbon filter helps with any odors that might be permeating your home. There is also an optional TiO2 filter for even more filtration.

A timer and a power cord rewind are features that make the AF-350 even easier to use. You might need some tips to make sure you are using your swamp cooler to the best of its ability. Five ways to make the most of using your swamp cooler are:

1. Make sure that a window is open while the swamp cooler is in use. If you do not, the moisture in your home will build up and your swamp cooler will work less effectively. Swamp coolers use humidity to cool so if there is too much present in the air already, the temperature will not change.

2. Wait until it is 85 degrees or warmer to operate the swamp cooler if possible. These units operate better when it is warmer. The temperatures of the cooling pads, the water and the air need to be significantly different.

3. Maintain your unit. Makes sure everything is clean, especially your filter. When filter is clogged, impurities can get through and evaporation might slow or even stop. It is especially important to perform maintenance on your swamp cooler before a heat wave.

4. Search for a cooler that is energy efficient and uses a low amount of water.

5. Do not operate an air conditioner and a swamp cooler at the same time. If you need to use both use the swamp cooler first to cool the air down and add humidity. Then use the air conditioner to maintain the temperature.

The NewAir AF-315 Swamp Cooler: Eliminate the Dryness!

Air conditioning seems like a miracle when the sun is beating down outside. It creates a pleasant atmosphere, but it can also have negative effects on your health. Air conditioned air is usually very dry. This dry air can irritate the delicate lining of your nose and mouth, making them cracked and dry. Your body floods these areas with mucus to prevent them from becoming dry which can make you feel stuffed up among other flu-like symptoms.

Nosebleeds can also result from the damaged inner nose lining caused by air conditioning. Air conditioning can aggravate the effects of arthritis and neuritis and can cause trouble for those with sinus issues.

A good alternative to air conditioning is a swamp cooler. Swamp coolers use the evaporation of water to cool your environment. They add humidity to your environment instead of taking the humidity away like an air conditioner does. This means no cracked and dry noses and lips.

The NewAir AF-315 Swamp Cooler is an inexpensive way to cool down your home. It has multiple filtration methods and a purifying ionizer to keep the air in your environment nice and clean. The ionizer releases anion which is of great importance to air quality. Anion is also good for your health. When anion and oxygen combine, they are very active and much easier to be absorbed by human organs. This promotes human body growth, prevents several diseases and rejuvenates the spirit.

The NewAir AF-315 has convenient access doors for adding water or ice packs. There is an easy-to-read water level indicator on the front of the swamp cooler. This unit is less than one foot wide and has a vertical design so it will fit almost anywhere. It also has a 100 degree oscillating air output vent and can be run in fan-only mode.

There are three settings for the air delivery mode. The normal mode will deliver cool air steadily and continuously. The natural mode has a breeze-like random output. The sleep mode decreases the air output over time to emulate resting body temperature changes. There are also three air speeds (high/medium/low).

There is a washable air filter so you will not have to replace it. The NewAir AF-315 also comes with rolling casters and a 0.5-7.5 hour timer. It plugs into a standard household outlet so that everyone should be able to use it. Keep in mind that swamp coolers are only effective in hot, dry areas. For a comfortable environment, try the NewAir AF-315 Swamp Cooler.

It's Getting Hot(ter) in Here: The NewAir AF-340 Swamp Cooler

Climate change is happening. The World Glacier Monitoring Service reported that glaciers are melting at their fastest rate in the past 5000 years. The summers seem to be getting warmer as well. A NewAir AF-340 Swamp Cooler can help you cool off as the climate changes.

Swamp coolers use the simple process of evaporation to cool you down. They are incredibly cost effective and low tech. When compared to a standard air conditioner they are not only more affordable to purchase, but they are more affordable to maintain as well.

The NewAir AF-340 Swamp Cooler has excellent maneuverability. It is lightweight at only 22 pounds. It is compact, has rolling casters and has a carrying handle. To get the best use out of this swamp cooler, it should be used in an area that is very hot and very dry. If there is humidity in the air, the swamp cooler will simply add more humidity to the air which could cause an uncomfortable situation. If the temperature is not high, the water will not evaporate, which is how the cooler cools you.

A powerful 140W motor is used by the NewAir AF-340. It has three selection speeds for cost efficient cooling. The specially designed cooling pads are capable of holding a greater amount of liquid than other swamp coolers of comparable size. This means a higher cooling efficiency because more water is being evaporated.

For your convenience, an electronic remote control is included with the NewAir AF-340. It has a 20 liter water tank capacity so you will not have to fill it up as often. A built-in ionizer attracts harmful particulates such as dust and dander. To get rid of even more particles floating in the air, an optional TiO2 filter is also included on the swamp cooler.

To get rid of noxious odors, there is a carbon filter. Carbon filters are a piece of active carbon that helps remove contaminants and impurities. Most active carbon is made from coconut shells. Because of the fissures on their surface, they have a very large surface area in a small amount of space. Gases and particles are trapped in these fissures and held there. This is why the carbon filter on the NewAir AF-340 Swamp Cooler is incredibly effective at removing odors.

You should position your swamp cooler in a location that will create a flow through air effect. They should be in a room with two windows open if possible and the cooled air should be directed into the room. These units have a 1-8 hour timer and can be set to a fixed or continuously sweeping airflow.

Some people may think that the panic about rising climates in a bunch of baloney. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The one thing we can all agree on is that summer is generally hot. And when those generally hot temperatures descend upon us, we need something to cool us down. A NewAir AF-340 Swamp Cooler might be the solution to that very problem.

The Thermally Comforting Technology of the New Air AC-12000E Portable Air Conditioner

Have you ever heard of thermal comfort? It may be a foreign term to your ears but your body knows it well. It is defined as the state of mind that feels satisfaction with the surrounding environment. Keeping that sense of thermal comfort for the occupants of buildings and other enclosures is one of the most important goals of HVAC design engineers. When the heat generated by human metabolism is allowed to dissipate to maintain thermal equilibrium with the surroundings, thermal comfort is maintained. If you gain or lose heat beyond that equilibrium, a sensation of discomfort is generated.

One portable air conditioner that may help you maintain thermal comfort this summer is the AC-12000E New Air Portable Air Conditioner. This slim and trim unit can cool spaces up to 400 square feet. It is easy to set up and maintain and no permanent installation is required. All you need to do is vent the unit. It is important to vent your portable air conditioner because they extract hot air. To cool a room effectively, the hot air that is extracted needs to go outside. An adjustable window exhaust kit is included with the AC-12000E. There will also be instructions on venting your unit. I may be easier than you think!

The AC-12000E New Air Portable Air Conditioner uses Nanomax technology. This technology evaporates the condensation away so you do not have to empty a bucket. During the cooling process, some of the water accumulated is used to cool the unit internally which makes it run more efficiently. In case there is excessive humidity, there is a built-in emergency condensation container. The unit will stop running when the container is full so that no damage is caused. It removes up to 60 pints a day of moisture.

You may be concerned about how much energy the AC-12000E uses. Calculating the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) is one way to determine how energy efficient a portable air conditioner is. This is the rating that lists how many BTUs per hour are used for each watt of power it draws. To calculate the rating, you divide the BTUs of the unit by the wattage. The higher the EER is, the more efficient the unit is. The AC-12000E has an EER rating of 14.46. That is very high which means very efficient.

So as the summer months descend upon us, bringing warm and possibly uncomfortable days, consider a New Air AC-12000E portable air conditioner to boost your thermal comfort!

The Quiet Cool of a New Air ACS Split Air Conditioner

As the weather heats us, you might be looking for a way to cool down your home that is cost effective and quiet. Why not try a split air conditioner like the New Air ACS 9001H? This unit is meant to cool spaces up to 400 square feet and comes fully charged with refrigerant. It also includes a 25 foot long line set that connects the indoor and outdoor units. This line set is a conduit that houses the power cable, refrigerant tubing, suction tubing and a condensate drain of the ACS 9001H. This links the outdoor and indoor air conditioner units through a small hole that is drilled in the wall of the building. The indoor unit on the New Air ACS 9001H mounts on the wall and quietly disburses the cooled air. The outdoor unit houses the compressor/condenser.
Since the compressor/condenser is housed outside, the indoor unit has a sound level of only 35-42 decibels. What does that decibel (dB) rating mean exactly? Well, the smallest audible sound is 0 dB (or near total silence). A whisper is 15 dB. A normal conversation is 60 dB. So the sound the indoor unit of a New Air ACS 9001H makes is between a whisper and a normal conversation.

The filter system of the New Air ACS 9001H is made up of a washable screen, and activated carbon filter and a photocatalyst filter. The washable screen is an air filter. The activated carbon helps get rid of odors. The photocatalyst filter employs an ultraviolet light that creates a reaction that releases free radicals. The free radicals get rid of toxic substances like germs and volatile organic compounds. This is how the New Air ACS helps protect you from harmful substances that might be inside your home.

The New Air ACS 9001H Split Air Conditioner not only protects you from excessive noise and potentially harmful air particles, it is incredibly convenient. It comes with a fully functional remote control and a one year manufacturer warranty. You can use this split air conditioner all year round because it also has a built-in heater. It also comes ready to install out-of-the-box by your HVAC professional. Just be sure to make sure you are choosing a good person to install your ACS 9001H. A qualified HVAC specialist should be licensed, be a member of the North American Technician Excellence and/or Better Business Bureau, have great references and be insured. Also, evaluate the bids you get from different companies and contractors very thoroughly.

You will want your New Air ACS Split Air Conditioner up and running beautifully as the summer months rapidly approach!

Surround yourself with a Symphony Evaporative Cooler

Evaporative air coolers are kind of like the hippie cousin of the air conditioner. They're more environmentally friendly, completely natural and they love the fresh air. One of these children of love is the Symphony Surround Evaporative Cooler. This evaporative cooler delivers cool mist air, does not emit harmful CFCs and can be operated with the window open without affecting performance.

The Symphony Surround makes your environment up to 15 degrees cooler but only uses about the same amount of power as a lightbulb. It is compact in size, only 18'' x 11'' x 26''. It is also light weight, weighing in at only twenty-two pounds. For maximum maneuverability, the Symphony Surround also has built-in casters.

For maximum performance, you should use evaporative coolers in hot, dry environment. The way they cool is by adding moisture to the air, so if it is humid already, the cooler will not be that effective. The tank holds 4.25 gallons of water. The cooling pads are made of wood wool. These pads have high water retention capacity and they are long lasting.

Some of the special features that are present on this model are:

-Triple the cooling power because there are cooling pads on three sides of the units.

-The water circulation is adjustable so you can crank it up if it's scorching and turn it down if it's kind of mild.

-If the water isn't needed at all, the Symphony Surround is able to be run in fan only mode.

-There is also a humidity control, a dust filter net and a water level indicator.

-There are three speed settings and a four way air deflection system.

So, if you have a space that is around 150 feet and there is no more than 50% humidity, why not try the Symphony Surround Evaporative Cooler? You'll not only be helping yourself, you'll be helping you wallet and the environment. It's almost a selfless act.

Air King 9166 20'' Window Exhaust Fan

In these modern times, homes are built with many structural advances. One of those advances is the air-tight insulation. With this insulation comes some problems, though. Moisture, stale air carrying contaminants and pathogens can circualte and cause mold and mildew, health problems, ruined furniture and peeling paint.

An exhaust fan can help with this problem. Exhaust fans help draw out stale air and bring in fresh air. They are usually ducted to the exterior of your home so that the bad indoor air can be removed to the outdoors.

One such exhaust fan is the Air King 9166 20'' Window Exhaust Fan. This fan is electrically reversible so you don't have to manually change the direct of the fan to change the direction the air is going in. This way you can run it either on intake so it brings fresh air to your home or on exhaust so it will pull the unhealthy air out of your home. The Air King 9166 has three speeds for intake and exhaust as well so it can handle a range of ventilation needs.

It's so convenient because it plugs into a standard household outlet, has a seven foot power cord, and has front mounted controls. They are very durable because they are made with impact resistant plastic and the motor is permanently lubricated so that minimal maintenance will be needed. It will fit in anywhere because of it's powder coated steel front grill and integrated plastic extender panels.

To keep your home circulating with fresh air instead of potential harmful air, try an Air King 9166.
