Port-A-Cool Evaporative Coolers

About Port-A-Cool
Founded in 1972, Portacool has become a premier
manufacturer of commercial evaporative coolers and they offer many
exciting and versatile options for portable cooling when standard
air conditioning units may be impractical to install, unavailable,
or even cost-prohibitive. Featuring evaporative coolers with
long-term dependability and maintenance-free operation, Port-A-Cool
swamp coolers can provide efficient cooling for any application such
as warehouses, stadiums, restaurants, and agricultural areas. In
addition, because Port-A-Cool evaporative coolers also perform at a
fraction of the cost of standard air conditioning (just pennies a
day!), you can provide cost-effective comfort for both your staff
and clients!
What is Evaporative Cooling?
Evaporative cooling can be likened to getting out of
the water after swimming and feeling the chill of the wind hitting
your wet skin, or dipping your finger in a glass of water, blowing
air across your finger, and feeling the cool sensation as the water
evaporates. Port-A-Cool evaporative cooling units such as the
PAC2K163SFC creates this naturally occurring process and provide
a constant flow of cool, refreshing air into a hot and uncomfortable
environment.
How Do Port-A-Cool Evaporative Coolers Work?
The heart of Port-A-Cool evaporative coolers
involves cooling pads such as the Kuul™ cooling media where water
evaporates and the air passing through the pads is cooled. The
patented Kuul™ pads are manufactured of high-quality, fluted
cellulose sheets that are glued together, and this material is
chemically impregnated with special compounds to prevent rot and to
ensure a long service life.
A water distribution system then spreads water over the surface of
the pad, and fans create a negative pressure which causes air to be
drawn through the pads. At that point, evaporation results from the
contact made between the air and water, and an advanced control
system operates the water pump, with the fan distributing the cool
air and lowering the over ambient temperature.
Port-A-Cool Evaporative Coolers vs. Traditional Air Conditioning
Although evaporative coolers and central air
conditioners both serve the purpose of keeping us cooling,
evaporative coolers are often less expensive to maintain, operate,
and they are especially suited for areas where air conditioning is
impossible or impractical.
Evaporative coolers such as Portacool evaporative cooling systems
cool the air by filtering it through water, and these systems work
best when a small amount of outside air circulates into the space
where the evaporative cooler is situated. Not only does this result
in energy savings, but in indoor settings, it also introduces fresh
air into the environment and reduces the risk of airborne
contaminants.
Central, or traditional air conditioners, on the other hand, take
humidity out of the air and produce cold, dry air, which makes them
better suited in an airtight space. However, the major advantage of
using an evaporative cooler such as a Port-A-Cool over a central air
conditioner involves operating costs, as operating an evaporative
cooler cost one third less than that of an air conditioner. Also,
Port-A-Cool evaporative coolers are a perfect, ozone-friendly
alternative to traditional air conditioning.
Port-A-Cool Evaporative Coolers - A "Green" Way to Cool
Refrigerated cooling such as that found in
traditional air conditioners makes the air dry and they utilize
refrigerants which may harm the environment. Portacool evaporative
coolers, however, use a natural process of water-cooled air which
won't dry out the air; irritate your eyes, nose, or skin; and affect
the environment.
Port-A-Cool Evaporative Coolers Save You Money!
Evaporative coolers such as Port-A-Cool evaporative cooling systems
are up to 50 percent cheaper to install and considerably cheaper to
run than refrigerated coolers, and typically, the cost for water and
electricity for a 36 inch Port-A-Cool unit such as the
PAC2K36HPVS for eight hours of operation is less than one dollar
- that's approximately THREE TIMES cheaper than traditional air
conditioning!
Additional Port-A-Cool Features
Port-A-Cool evaporative coolers not only provide you
with energy efficient cooling, they also boast features such as
molded plastic polyethylene housing; flexible capabilities for
ducting, portability; long-term dependability and near
maintenance-free operation, and all of the electric units are UL
listed.
Port-A-Cool Evaporative Cooler Applications
Portacool portable swamp coolers are versatile and
can be used in a variety of situations where you need cooling
comfort such as the following:
 |
Industrial Areas: Port-A-Cool evaporative
coolers are great for workshops, warehouses, assembly areas,
and construction sites, as they can cool work equipment for
increased lifespan and increase worker productivity by
improving working environments. |
 |
Sporting Arenas: Port-A-Cool evaporative
coolers can allow you to have fun and keep cool in places
such as locker rooms, athletic fields, health clubs,
gymnasiums, and sidelines by decreasing the ambient
temperature by an average of 20 degrees Fahrenheit. In fact,
the Dallas Cowboys use Port-A-Cool evaporative coolers for
their summer workouts and early season games at Texas
Stadium! |
 |
Agricultural Areas: Port-A-Cool
evaporative coolers work well in feeding barns, stables, and
production areas, and keep areas cool without jeopardizing
animal health. Studies conducted by the Department of Animal
Sciences at Kansas State University have also shown that
evaporative cooling can even increase milk production in
cows when used in holding pens and exit lanes.
|
 |
Military: Port-A-Cool evaporative cooling
systems keep hangers, flight lines, warehouses, tents, and
mess halls cool and comfortable, and they are ideal for
training areas, artillery ranges, and other places where
heat may limit usability. In addition, Port-A-Cool
evaporative coolers can also increase the longevity of
military equipment. |
 |
Patio Areas and Restaurants: Although the
summer heat can sometimes make patio areas off-limits,
Port-A-Cool evaporative coolers can reduce the temperature by an average
of 20 degrees. As well, in restaurants and other dining
establishments, Port-A-Cool units can help keep your
customers comfortable and they will also allow you to
utilize enclosed patio areas year-round. |
 |
Automotive Workshops: If you need to cool
your mechanical bay, repair center, garage, or oil change
center, a Port-A-Cool evaporative cooler is for you. These
units keep work areas an average of 20 degrees cooler, and
make work or waiting areas more comfortable for both your
employees and customers |
Top Five Reasons to Purchase a Port-A-Cool Evaporative Cooler
1. Energy Efficiency: Evaporative
cooling systems save approximately 60 barrels of oil annually and 27
billion pounds of annual CO2 emissions in lieu of vapor compression
air conditioning systems. 2. Environmentally-Friendly: Unlike traditional air
conditioning or vapor compression systems, Portacool evaporative
coolers produce no fluorocarbons, and actually help reduce global
CO2, CFC, and other greenhouse gas emissions. 3. Available in a Variety of Sizes: Port-A-Cool
evaporative coolers are available in four sizes for the electric
units and three sizes of pneumatic units or two hazardous location
units. 4. Inexpensive to Operate: Portacool evaporative
cooling systems allow you to efficiently manage your energy, and
operating a Portacool can cost up to one third less than a
traditional air conditioner.
5. Improves Indoor Air Quality: The Kuul™ pads in
Port-A-Cool evaporative coolers offer superior fluting, and
impurities such as dust and debris are filtered out, leaving you
with fresh, cool, and best of all, clean air.
